NEMIX RAM lists memory for 36 HP Z workstation models in 54 listings, from the Z1 and Z2 entry lines to the Z4, Z6 and Z8 towers and the older Z240, Z440, Z640 and Z840. This guide groups them by module type, then by memory generation and speed. The full catalog is in the HP Z workstation collection and on the workstation memory page. HP ZBook mobile workstations are in the ZBook collection.
How to find your model
The model name, such as Z2 Tower G9 or Z8 G4, is on the label and in the BIOS. On Windows, run Get-CimInstance Win32_ComputerSystem | Select-Object Model in PowerShell. On Linux, run sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name. Use the name exactly as shown. The generation suffix matters, because a G4 and a G5 of the same line can use different memory.
Which module type does an HP Z take?
The Z1 and Z2 towers and small form factor models take UDIMM, ECC or NON-ECC. The Z2 Mini takes SODIMM. The Z4, Z6 and Z8 towers, the Z4 Rack and the older Z440, Z640, Z840 and ZCentral 4R take ECC RDIMM, and the Z8 G4 also has an LRDIMM listing. The Z4 G4 is listed under both UDIMM and RDIMM. The type is fixed by the system and cannot be mixed.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find my HP Z model?
The model name is on the label on the chassis and in the BIOS. On Windows, run Get-CimInstance Win32_ComputerSystem in PowerShell and read the Model field. On Linux, run sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name.
Why do many Z2 models have an ECC and a NON-ECC listing?
The Z2 line accepts either type depending on the processor installed. Pick the listing that matches your processor and its ECC support. The two types cannot be mixed in one system.
Can I mix RDIMM and UDIMM in a Z4?
No. A system takes one module type. The Z4 G4 has separate UDIMM and RDIMM listings because the two configurations use different memory, and you must match the one your system has.
What does "kits of up to 16" mean?
Each listing sells single modules and matched kits. The number shows the largest kit offered on that listing. Install modules evenly across channels.
My HP Z model is not listed. What should I do?
Send us the model name from the label and we will confirm a compatible module before you order.
Do you work from purchase orders and net terms?
Yes. Purchase orders, net terms for approved credit applications and volume pricing are available. Use the quote form to start.
