Two slots, always. Buy in pairs. Every Mac mini here has exactly two SODIMM sockets, so memory is installed as a matched pair. That's the one rule that matters on this page.
- Mac mini Late 2018 (Macmini8,1) — DDR4 2666MHz PC4-21300 SODIMM, up to 64GB (2×32GB). The slots are inside the machine rather than behind the old twist-off cover, so this one is a proper teardown — but the memory is fully replaceable.
- Mac mini 2012 (Macmini6,1 / 6,2) — DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 SODIMM.
- Mac mini Mid 2011 (Macmini5,1 / 5,2 / 5,3) — DDR3 1333MHz PC3-10600 SODIMM.
The 2011 and 2012 minis are the easiest upgrade Apple ever shipped — twist off the round bottom cover, swap both modules, twist it back. No tools, about two minutes.
The gaps are real, and they're Apple's. There's no Late 2014 Mac mini here because Apple soldered its memory to the logic board — that generation cannot be upgraded at any capacity. Every Apple Silicon Mac mini (M1, M2, M4) uses unified memory built into the chip and is likewise fixed at whatever it shipped with. If your mini isn't listed above, it isn't upgradeable.
