Memory upgrades for Dell systems of every kind: PowerEdge servers, Precision workstations, OptiPlex, Vostro and Dell Pro desktops, Latitude, Vostro, Dell Pro and Inspiron laptops. Every listing is matched to one Dell model, or to one Dell memory part number, using the memory type, speed and module sizes Dell specifies. This page explains how to identify your Dell system and which memory it takes. To go straight to the products, type your Dell model or part number into the search bar at the top of the page.

Find your Dell model first

The model name is on the label on the bottom of a laptop or the side or back of a desktop, and on the front of a PowerEdge server. The fastest way to confirm it is the Service Tag: enter it at Dell Support to see the exact model and its memory configuration. The generation matters: an OptiPlex 7010 and an OptiPlex 7010 Micro, or a PowerEdge R740 and R750, take different memory.

Which memory does my Dell system take?

  • PowerEdge servers: 17th and 16th generation (R6x5/R7x5, R660, R760 and later) take DDR5 RDIMM; 15th generation (R650, R750) takes DDR4-3200; 14th generation (R640, R740) takes DDR4-2666/2933. See the PowerEdge guide for every model.
  • Precision workstations: mobile models take SODIMM or ECC SODIMM; tower and rack models take UDIMM, ECC UDIMM or RDIMM depending on the processor.
  • OptiPlex, Vostro and Dell Pro desktops: Micro and All-in-One models take SODIMMs; Small Form Factor and Tower models take UDIMMs. Models from 2022 onward are mostly DDR5.
  • Latitude, Vostro, Dell Pro and Inspiron laptops: SODIMM; many recent thin models have soldered memory and are not listed.

Rules that apply across Dell systems

  • Laptops, mini PCs and all-in-ones take SODIMMs; towers and small form factor desktops take UDIMMs. Some models have memory soldered to the board alongside one slot, or no replaceable slot at all; we list only models with a replaceable slot.
  • Install matched pairs for dual-channel operation where the system has two or more slots.
  • Registered or unbuffered, never both. Servers built on Xeon Scalable, Xeon 6, Xeon W-2400/3400 and AMD EPYC take registered memory (RDIMM or LRDIMM); entry servers on Xeon E, Xeon 6300, EPYC 4004 and similar take ECC unbuffered UDIMMs. Each listing names the type its system takes.
  • Do not mix RDIMMs with LRDIMMs, or 3DS with standard RDIMMs, in the same system.
  • Fill memory channels in matched groups of identical modules: six or eight per processor on Intel Xeon Scalable and Xeon 6, eight or twelve on AMD EPYC.
  • Match the generation. DDR5, DDR4 and DDR3 modules are keyed differently and will not fit each other's slots.
  • Speed follows the platform. Faster modules clock down automatically to the speed the processor and slot population support.

Ordering by Dell part number

Dell sells memory under part numbers such as SNP and AB/AA numbers. If you are adding to modules you already have or ordering from a Dell quote, search the part number or browse Dell part numbers. Each part-number listing is matched to the density, rank and speed of the original module.

Why NEMIX RAM for Dell memory

NEMIX RAM is a US-based server memory specialist, in business since 1993. Every module is researched, matched, and compatibility-tested by NEMIX RAM, is JEDEC-compliant, and is backed by a lifetime warranty. Each Dell listing names the exact model or part number it fits, so there is no guesswork about module type, speed or capacity.

IT fleets, schools and data centers

Purchase orders, net terms and volume pricing are available for IT departments, schools, healthcare, government buyers, data centers and resellers. Request a quote for a fleet of Dell systems or a server refresh, or send us your model or part number and we will confirm the right module before you order.

Frequently asked

How do I find out which memory my Dell takes?
Enter your Service Tag at Dell Support to confirm the exact model, then search that model here. Each listing states the slot count, maximum capacity and speed Dell specifies.

Can I mix NEMIX RAM with the Dell memory already installed?
Yes, if the new modules match the installed ones in type, capacity and speed. For dual-channel performance, install matched pairs.

Why is my laptop model not listed?
Many recent thin-and-light Dell laptops have memory soldered to the system board that cannot be upgraded. We list only models with a replaceable memory slot.
