ASUSTOR NAS Memory: LOCKERSTOR, FLASHSTOR & NIMBUSTOR by Model
ASUSTOR is ASUS's NAS subsidiary, and its lines take different memory. LOCKERSTOR is the multi-bay family with hot-swap drive bays, with the current Gen3 units on DDR5 SODIMM and the R Pro Gen2 rackmounts on DDR5 ECC UDIMM. FLASHSTOR is the all-flash family — M.2 NVMe rather than drive bays, far higher throughput, much smaller chassis — with the Gen2 units (FS6806X, FS6812X) also on DDR5. The NIMBUSTOR and older AS5, AS6 and AS7 series run DDR4 or DDR3. Across all of them the choice that matters is ECC versus non-ECC: ASUSTOR's own part numbers differ by two characters (AS-16GD5 is non-ECC, AS-16GECD5 is ECC). On the Xeon and Ryzen Pro units, order ECC; on the Gen3 and Flashstor Gen2 units ASUSTOR sells both, and non-ECC simply runs with ECC turned off. Match the full part code, not the capacity.
The ASUSTOR lines, and what each one takes
Lockerstor is the hot-swap multi-bay family and spans four memory generations. Gen3 (AS6804T, AS6806T, AS6808T, AS6810T) uses the AMD Ryzen V3C14 and takes DDR5-4800 SODIMM, ECC or non-ECC — two slots; ASUSTOR states a 64GB maximum and also sells a 48GB module for the series. Gen2 and Gen2+ (AS6702T, AS6704T, AS6706T and the v2 models) are Intel Celeron N5105 on DDR4 non-ECC SODIMM — two slots; ASUSTOR's own AS-8GD4 module for them is DDR4-3200. Gen1 (AS6602T, AS6604T) is Celeron J4125 on DDR4-2400 non-ECC SODIMM. The 8- and 10-bay Lockerstor (AS6508T, AS6510T) is Atom C3538 on DDR4 non-ECC SODIMM, and the rackmount Lockerstor 4RS, 4RD and 12RD (AS6504RS, AS6504RD, AS6512RD) take four DDR4 non-ECC SODIMMs. Lockerstor 10 Pro (AS7110T) takes DDR4 ECC SODIMM. The rackmount Lockerstor R Pro (AS7112RDX, AS7116RDX) is Xeon E-2224 on four slots of full-size 288-pin DDR4 ECC UDIMM — not SODIMM at all — and the R Pro Gen2 (AS7212RDX, AS7216RDX, AS7224RDX) is Ryzen 7 Pro 7745 on four slots of DDR5-4800 ECC UDIMM, up to 192GB with 4x48GB.
Flashstor is the all-M.2 family. Gen2 (FS6806X, FS6812X) shares the Ryzen V3C14 platform with Lockerstor Gen3 and takes the same DDR5-4800 SODIMM, ECC or non-ECC; the FS6806X ships with non-ECC. Gen1 Flashstor 6 and 12 Pro (FS6706T, FS6712X) share the N5105 platform with Lockerstor Gen2 — DDR4 non-ECC SODIMM. On the Flashstor units the flash array is fast enough that memory becomes the bottleneck first, which is why they are the units most often upgraded.
Nimbustor is the two- and four-bay home line. Gen2 (AS5402T, AS5404T) is N5105 on DDR4 non-ECC SODIMM; Gen1 (AS5202T, AS5304T) is Celeron J4005 / J4105 on DDR4-2400. Drivestor and Drivestor Pro (AS1102T, AS1104T, AS3302T, AS3304T) are ARM units with soldered memory and cannot be upgraded.
The older AS6 (AS6102T through AS6404T — Celeron J3160 / J3355 / J3455) and AS5 (AS5002T through AS5110T — Celeron J1900) series run DDR3L SODIMM at 1.35V; use DDR3L, not standard 1.5V DDR3. The AS7 desktops (AS7004T, AS7008T, AS7010T — Core i3-4005U) take DDR3-1600 SODIMM, and the AS7 rackmounts take DDR3-1600 UDIMM: ECC on the AS7009RDX and AS7012RDX, non-ECC on the AS7009RD and AS7012RD.

ASUSTOR's part numbers carry it in two letters — AS-16GECD5 is ECC, AS-16GD5 is not — and the capacity and generation codes on either side are identical, which is how the wrong one gets ordered. The Xeon and Ryzen Pro rackmounts are specified for ECC because they are sold as small hypervisors and backup targets; match the full code. On the Gen3 and Flashstor Gen2 units, use one type throughout — do not mix ECC and non-ECC modules.
Finding your model and what is in it
The model number is on the underside label and in ADM → System Information, which also shows installed memory and, on two-slot units, slot population. ASUSTOR's compatibility page for the model lists the AS- part, the slot count, and the documented maximum. With those three things — model, installed capacity, target capacity — the module is determined. The ASUSTOR memory by model collection lists every supported unit by name and model code, and the ASUSTOR cross-reference collection lists every AS- part with its NEMIX RAM equivalent, filterable by system model. Three rules that cover every ASUSTOR upgrade
- Pairs on two-slot units. Two identical modules run dual-channel. Replacing the factory 4GB or 8GB with a matched pair is the clean upgrade on any unit that will run Plex, containers, or a VM.
- Speed is set by the CPU. N5105 at 2933, J4125 at 2400, C3538 at 2133, Ryzen V3C14, Ryzen 7 Pro 7745 and Xeon E-2224 at their rated speeds. A faster module of the right generation fits and runs at the CPU's speed; there is no benefit to paying for more.
- Documented maximums are conservative on the N5105 units. ASUSTOR documents 16GB on Lockerstor Gen2 and Gen2+, Flashstor Pro, and Nimbustor Gen2; 2×16GB is widely reported to work but is outside the stated configuration. Choose knowing that.
