Memory upgrades for HPE ProLiant DL, ML and MicroServer systems, Synergy, SimpliVity, Superdome and other HPE servers, from Gen9 to Gen12. Listings are matched either to one HPE server or to one HPE memory part number, using the memory type, speed and module sizes HPE specifies. This page explains how to identify your HPE system and which memory it takes. To go straight to the products, type your HPE model or part number into the search bar at the top of the page.

Find your HPE model first

The server model and generation (for example ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus) are on the front of the server and the pull-out label, and in HPE iLO. HPE memory part numbers end in -B21 for option kits (for example P38446-B21 or 879507-B21); they are on your HPE quote and on the installed module label.

Which memory does my HPE server take?

  • Gen12 (Intel Xeon 6, AMD EPYC 9005): DDR5-6400 RDIMM.
  • Gen11 (4th and 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable, AMD EPYC 9004): DDR5-4800 or DDR5-5600 RDIMM; the MicroServer Gen11 takes DDR5 ECC UDIMM.
  • Gen10 Plus and Gen10 Plus v2 (3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable, AMD EPYC 7002/7003): DDR4-3200 RDIMM or LRDIMM.
  • Gen10 (1st and 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable): DDR4-2666 or DDR4-2933 RDIMM or LRDIMM.
  • Gen9 (Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4): DDR4-2133 or DDR4-2400 RDIMM or LRDIMM.

Rules that apply across HPE systems

  • Registered or unbuffered, never both. Servers built on Xeon Scalable, Xeon 6, Xeon W-2400/3400 and AMD EPYC take registered memory (RDIMM or LRDIMM); entry servers on Xeon E, Xeon 6300, EPYC 4004 and similar take ECC unbuffered UDIMMs. Each listing names the type its system takes.
  • Do not mix RDIMMs with LRDIMMs, or 3DS with standard RDIMMs, in the same system.
  • Fill memory channels in matched groups of identical modules: six or eight per processor on Intel Xeon Scalable and Xeon 6, eight or twelve on AMD EPYC.
  • Match the generation. DDR5, DDR4 and DDR3 modules are keyed differently and will not fit each other's slots.
  • Speed follows the platform. Faster modules clock down automatically to the speed the processor and slot population support.

Ordering by HPE part number

HPE sells memory under option part numbers ending in -B21 and spare numbers ending in -001 or -091. If you are adding to modules you already have or ordering from an HPE quote, search the part number or browse HPE part numbers. Each part-number listing is matched to the density, rank and speed of the original module.

Why NEMIX RAM for HPE memory

NEMIX RAM is a US-based server memory specialist, in business since 1993. Every module is researched, matched, and compatibility-tested by NEMIX RAM, is JEDEC-compliant, and is backed by a lifetime warranty. Each HPE listing names the exact model or part number it fits, so there is no guesswork about module type, speed or capacity.

Data centers and HPE partners

Purchase orders, net terms and volume pricing are available for data centers, enterprises, government buyers, HPE partners and resellers. Request a quote for a server refresh or a spares pool, or send us your model or part number and we will confirm the right module before you order.

Frequently asked

Can I add NEMIX RAM to the HPE memory already installed?
Yes, if the new modules match the installed ones in type, capacity, rank and speed. HPE recommends identical modules within each channel group; when in doubt, send us the part number of the installed modules.

Will DDR5 memory work in my Gen10 Plus server?
No. Gen10 and Gen10 Plus servers take DDR4; Gen11 and Gen12 servers take DDR5.

Can I search by HPE part number?
Yes. Type the -B21 option number or the spare number into the search bar at the top of the page.
