LRDIMM stands for Load Reduced Dual Inline Memory Module and is primarily used for server memory upgrades. LRDIMM is not to be confused with ECC UDIMM although both have ECC (error correction.) ECC UDIMM is unbuffered and LRDIMM is buffered. When memory is manufactured, it can be a dual in-line memory module, called a DIMM, while a Load Reduced memory module is called an LRDIMM. Load Reduced memory modules have a register / buffer chip between the DRAM of the modules and the system's memory controller. Load Reduced along with Registered / Buffered server memory uses less electrical load on the memory controller which allows single systems to remain stable with more memory modules load. Both DDR3 and DDR4 Load Reduced DIMM LR-DIMM are similar to Registered DIMM R-DIMMs, however there is an added buffer which controls data and memory load of data lines resulting in a larger overall maximum memory capacity. In other words, servers can be upgraded to maximum memory capacity usually by utilizing LRDIMM over any other memory type.Â
Usually, the motherboard must match the DIMM type… load reduced memory will not work in a motherboard not designed for LRDIMM. Desktops, Gaming Computers, PC motherboards are usually all unbuffered specification and will not accept registered, buffered or load reduced memory.Â
Although there is often confusion between load reduced, registered / buffered memory and ECC unbuffered memory, we can make your upgrade experience very easy. Yes, there are certain machines and boards that will accept RDIMM, LRDIMM, and ECC UDIMM. For the best power consumption and stability, we always recommend using NEMIX RAM LRDIMM upgrades, if there is a choice given. If not sure about your upgrade, simply call us and we will guide you through our site or assist with your order by phone. We can even offer quantity discounts on registered memory and terms to qualified organizations.
DDR3 LRDIMM, although considered EOL (end of life) is still readily used in many applications. DDR3 LRDIMM is a 240-pin module available in 32GB modules and 64GB modules. Rank is depicted by the type of DRAM a module is built with. Our memory upgrades are sold using standard and most common rank configurations, but any other rank is available. Some DDR3 LRDIMM modules are available in 1.35V although most are 1.5V. If you are unsure if which voltage is correct for your application, try searching by Memory by Manufacturer for your specific machine / model or simply call us if you need assistance with rank or voltage or any other technical specification.
DDR4 LRDIMM is a 288-pin, 72-bit module available in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB density. DDR4 LRDIMM are available in all speeds ranging from 2133Mhz up to 3200MHz and are also available in different ranks. Voltage is consistently 1.2V. Not all registered memory is equal! Quality of the chipset and PCB play a big role along with the buffer. Although most tier 1 manufacturers such as Samsung, Micron and Hynix ™ manufacture original modules with highest quality components, not all other manufacturers produce high quality server memory upgrades. NEMIX RAM has been designing and manufacturing server memory for 30 years. We are a niche private manufacturer with quality and price in mind, not to mention Lifetime Warranty on all server memory upgrades. NEMIX RAM LRDIMM is manufactured using only tier 1 chips and highest quality components and PCB. We specially design our modules for specific systems, guaranteeing performance and scalability. Our registered memory upgrades are 100% compatible with any server including Cisco, HP, IBM, Supermicro, Dell, Lenovo, Asus and much more.Â
If you purchase your upgrade from us it will be shipped the same day if your order is placed before 3pm EST. We offer the best priced registered memory upgrades guaranteed and can assist you or your computer technician with correct upgrades, even technical support. NEMIX RAM offers registered memory from 8GB to 256GB modules and all available DDR3 DDR4 DDR5 speeds backed by lifetime warranty.
