NEMIX RAM Apple iMac Memory Upgrades

The iMac has been Apple's desktop since 1998, and for most of that run the fastest, cheapest way to make one faster has been more memory. We stock tested SODIMM upgrades for every Intel iMac from the 2009 models through the Mid 2020 27" — plus ECC memory for the iMac Pro.

Know which iMac you have before you buy. Apple changed memory speed almost every model year, and the machines differ in how the memory is reached:

  • 27" iMac (2012–2020) — a memory door on the back, behind the stand. Four slots, no tools, no disassembly. The easiest upgrade Apple ever shipped.
  • 21.5" iMac — no door. The memory sits inside the machine, so this is a service job rather than a five-minute swap, and some configurations are fixed at the factory. Check your model before ordering.
  • iMac Pro (2017, iMacPro1,1) — ECC Registered RDIMM, up to 512GB. Same server-grade memory class we build for enterprise, and a service-access job.
  • M1, M3 and M4 iMac (2021 onward) — unified memory built into the chip. Not upgradeable, by anyone, ever. Whatever it shipped with is what it has.
