Dell introduced the first PowerEdge server in 1996. Since then Dell has released many generations of PowerEdge systems, grouped by shared design components — the current line is the 16th generation. The model name itself encodes the generation, the form factor or CPU socket count, and the class. Today's range runs from small-business towers to enterprise rack and modular systems supporting multiple terabytes of memory.

RDIMM or LRDIMM — which does your PowerEdge need?

Most PowerEdge servers take ECC Registered memory (RDIMM). Higher-capacity configurations on multi-socket platforms frequently require Load-Reduced memory (LRDIMM) to reach the machine's maximum supported capacity. The two are not interchangeable, and the correct choice depends on your exact model, populated slots, and installed CPUs. If you are not certain which your server takes, send us the model and current configuration and we will confirm fitment before you order.
