Memory upgrades for QNAP NAS units, from home and SOHO desktop models to SMB, enterprise rackmount, dual-controller and all-flash systems. Listings are matched either to one QNAP model or to one QNAP memory part number, using the memory type, speed and module sizes QNAP specifies. This page explains how to identify your QNAP system and which memory it takes. To go straight to the products, type your QNAP model or part number into the search bar at the top of the page.

Find your QNAP model first

The NAS model (for example TS-464, TVS-h874 or TS-h1290FX) is on the label on the bottom or back of the unit and in QTS or QuTS hero under Control Panel, System Status. QNAP memory part numbers start with RAM-, for example RAM-16GDR4ECT0-UD-3200; they are on the installed module and on your quote.

Which memory does my QNAP NAS take?

  • Home and SOHO desktop units: DDR4 or DDR5 SODIMM, usually one or two slots.
  • SMB units: SODIMM or UDIMM, with ECC on models built on Xeon, Ryzen PRO or EPYC processors.
  • Enterprise, ZFS (QuTS hero) and dual-controller units: ECC UDIMM or registered RDIMM; fill each controller identically.

Rules that apply across QNAP systems

  • Match the form factor and ECC type. Most desktop NAS units take SODIMMs; rackmount and enterprise units take ECC UDIMMs or RDIMMs. ECC units should be filled with ECC modules only.
  • Stay within the NAS maker's documented maximum for each slot and in total, and install matched modules where the unit has two or more slots.
  • Match the generation. DDR5, DDR4 and DDR3 modules are keyed differently and will not fit each other's slots.
  • Speed follows the platform. Faster modules clock down automatically to the speed the processor and slot population support.

Ordering by QNAP part number

QNAP sells memory under part numbers such as RAM-16GDR4ECT0-UD-3200 or RAM-32GDR4K0-RD-3200. If you are adding to a module you already have, search its part number or browse QNAP part numbers. Each part-number listing is matched to the density, rank and speed of the original module.

Frequently asked

Does my QNAP NAS need ECC memory?
Only if it shipped with ECC memory: models on Xeon, Ryzen PRO and EPYC processors take ECC modules, and should be filled with ECC only. Each listing names the type.

Can I exceed the memory QNAP lists for my model?
Stay within the per-slot and total maximum QNAP documents for your model; each listing offers only those sizes.

How do I check what memory is installed?
In QTS or QuTS hero, open Control Panel, System Status, Hardware Information to see the installed memory and slot count.
