QNAP NAS memory comes in more variety than any other NAS brand: small SODIMM-based desktop units, UDIMM rackmounts, ECC UDIMM and RDIMM systems for ZFS storage, and DDR5 all-flash models. This guide matches the QNAP model you own to the module it takes. The NEMIX RAM catalog behind it lists 136 QNAP model listings covering 128 models, shown below by module type, with a link to each. For the full QNAP picture, including part numbers, see the QNAP NAS memory hub and the QNAP NAS memory collection.
Step 1: Find your exact QNAP model and what is installed
The model is printed on the label on the back or underside of the unit, for example TS-464, TS-h973AX or TVS-h874. The suffix matters: a TS-464U, TS-464eU and TS-464 are different machines. In the QNAP operating system, the system information page shows the installed memory and how many slots are in use. If you already have a module installed, its label shows the type (DDR4 or DDR5), the form factor and the speed, and matching those is the safest way to add to it.
Step 2: Match the module type to your QNAP class
| QNAP class | Module type | Typical models |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop and compact rackmount NAS | Non-ECC SODIMM, DDR4 | TS-264, TS-464, TS-664, TS-873A, TVS-h674, TS-h973AX |
| Rackmount NAS | Non-ECC UDIMM, DDR4 | TS-432PXU, TS-832PXU, TS-877XU-RP |
| Business and ZFS NAS with ECC | ECC UDIMM, DDR4 | TS-h886, TS-h1283XU-RP, TVS-h1288X, TS-h3088XU-RP |
| Enterprise and all-flash storage | ECC RDIMM, DDR4 | TS-h1090FU, TS-h2490FU, ES1686dc, ES2486dc, TDS-h2489FU |
| Newest all-flash, AI and Thunderbolt NAS | DDR5 UDIMM or SODIMM, ECC or non-ECC | TS-h1277AXU-RP, TVS-h877AX, TS-h966TX, TS-h665U |
| Older SOHO NAS | Non-ECC SODIMM, DDR3L | TS-231P2, TS-431X3, TS-251B |
DDR3, DDR4 and DDR5 modules are keyed differently and do not fit each other's slots, and SODIMM and UDIMM are different sizes. QNAP also sells models with memory soldered to the board, such as the TS-433 and TS-233; those have nothing to upgrade and are not listed.
Step 3: Decide whether you need ECC
ECC (error-correcting code) memory detects and corrects single-bit errors. QNAP's QuTS hero operating system, which runs on the TS-h and TVS-h models, is based on the ZFS file system, which uses a large share of RAM for caching and data integrity, so ECC memory and generous capacity both matter more there. Whether your NAS accepts ECC depends on its processor and board, so use the listing for your exact model rather than choosing ECC on its own. ECC and non-ECC modules should not be mixed in one NAS. On models that list both options, check the specification for your model and any module already installed.
Step 4: Find your model below
Every model name links to its listing. Where a model has both an ECC and a non-ECC option, both are linked. The last column shows the largest kit NEMIX RAM lists for the models in that row; the QNAP specification for your model sets the supported maximum.

Step 5: Choose capacity
RAM on a NAS is working space: it caches frequently read data and runs the apps, virtual machines and containers on top of file serving. File sharing alone needs little. Virtualization Station, Container Station, surveillance recording, Plex or other media servers, and ZFS-based QuTS hero all use more. Start from the amount in your configuration, add the apps you plan to run, and use the largest kit your QNAP specification supports if you expect to grow. Fill slots with matched modules of the same capacity and speed; a two-module kit gives dual-channel operation on models that support it.
Step 6: Installing and checking
Shut the NAS down and unplug it, ground yourself, open the memory compartment, and seat the module firmly until the retaining clips click. On the first boot, confirm in the system information page that the full capacity is detected. If you need QNAP's own part numbers, the QNAP part number cross-reference lists them; the product listings above are matched to the same specifications.
