Dual-processor server motherboard with two large heatsinks and full memory rows

In 2023 Intel handed its server board and server system business to MiTAC Computing. The hardware did not go anywhere: Intel S2600 boards, R1000 and R2000 rack systems, HNS2600 compute modules and the newer M50 and D50 platforms still run HPC clusters, university labs, hosting fleets and back-office racks, and they still need memory. NEMIX RAM has now completed its Intel server catalog: 117 listings covering 78 Intel boards, systems and compute modules across 16 platform families, from the Xeon E3 S1200SP to the DDR5 M50FCP. Every listing names one Intel model and states its slot count and maximum memory, and every S2600-era model now has both an RDIMM and an LRDIMM listing with kits. This post covers what changed, which memory each platform takes, and how to choose between registered and load-reduced modules.

In this post: What is new · Memory by platform · DDR5: M50FCP and D50DNP · 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable · RDIMM or LRDIMM · Kits and population · Every model we list · Finding your model · FAQ

What is new in the Intel catalog

  • 27 listings for current Intel platforms. The M50FCP and D50DNP (DDR5, 4th and 5th Gen Xeon Scalable) and the M50CYP, M20NTP, M70KLP and D50TNP (DDR4-3200, 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable) boards, systems and compute modules, each with 16GB to 128GB RDIMMs in kits of 1 to 16.
  • An RDIMM listing for every older platform. The 39 S2600, S7200AP, S9200WK, R1000/R2000 and HNS2600 models were listed with a single 64GB LRDIMM. Each now has a matching RDIMM listing at the platform's registered-memory speed, and the two listings link to each other.
  • Kits on every listing. 177 LRDIMM kits were added to the 39 LRDIMM listings and 24 ECC UDIMM kits to the 12 S1200SP listings, sized to each platform's slot count and channel layout.
  • 47 more model numbers are searchable. Refresh "R" SKUs such as S2600WFTR and R2224WFTZSR, the S2600BP boards and HNS2600BP module variants, and Intel's zero spellings (S2600WF0, R2208WF0ZS, R2312WF0NP) all return the listing for the same board.

Which memory does my Intel server take?

The platform family decides the memory. A rack system or compute module takes the same memory as the Intel board inside it: an M50FCP2UR208 takes the same DDR5 as the M50FCP2SBSTD board, and an R2208WFTZS takes S2600WF memory. DDR5 and DDR4 modules are keyed differently and will not fit each other's slots.

On the M50CYP, M50FCP and M20NTP, Intel's maximum counts the largest modules Intel validates. NEMIX RAM lists these platforms with modules up to 128GB, so a fully populated M50CYP or M50FCP holds 4TB with NEMIX modules.

DDR5: M50FCP and D50DNP

The M50FCP board and its 1U and 2U systems (M50FCP2SBSTD, M50FCP1UR204) and the D50DNP modules for the FC2000 multi-node chassis (D50DNP1MHCPAC) run 4th and 5th Gen Xeon Scalable processors and take DDR5 RDIMMs. NEMIX RAM lists them at DDR5-5600. With 5th Gen processors and one module per channel the memory runs at 5600 MT/s; with 4th Gen it runs at 4800 MT/s; with two modules per channel it runs at up to 4400 MT/s. The listings offer 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB modules. Intel does not list 96GB modules for the M50FCP, so neither do we.

3rd Gen Xeon Scalable: DDR4-3200

The M50CYP (M50CYP2SB1U), M20NTP (M20NTP2SB), four-socket M70KLP (M70KLP4S2UHH) and the D50TNP compute modules (D50TNP1MHCPAC) take DDR4-3200 RDIMMs from 16GB to 128GB. The modules run at the speed the processor supports: 3200 MT/s with Xeon Platinum and Gold 6300 processors, lower with Gold 5300 and Silver 4300. The M50CYP and M50FCP each have 32 slots, eight channels per processor with two slots per channel; the M20NTP has 16 slots, one per channel; the M70KLP has 48 across four sockets.

S2600 and R2000 platforms: RDIMM or LRDIMM?

Every S2600, S7200AP, S9200WK, R1000/R2000 and HNS2600 model now has two listings. Which one to choose depends on what is already installed and on the processor.

  • Match what is installed. RDIMMs and LRDIMMs cannot be mixed in the same system. If the server already has RDIMMs, add RDIMMs; if it has LRDIMMs, add LRDIMMs or replace the full set.
  • 1st and 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable (S2600WF, S2600ST, S2600BP, S9200WK and the R1000WF/R2000WF systems): the RDIMM listings are DDR4-2933 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. 2933 MT/s needs a 2nd Gen Xeon Platinum or Gold 6200 processor at one module per channel; other processors run the memory at 2666 MT/s or lower. 64GB RDIMMs need 2nd Gen processors, because they use 16Gb DRAM that 1st Gen Xeon Scalable does not support. With 1st Gen processors, use 16GB or 32GB RDIMMs or the 64GB LRDIMM.
  • Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4 (S2600WT, S2600CW, S2600TP, S2600KP and the R1304WT systems) and the Xeon Phi S7200AP: the RDIMM listings are DDR4-2400 in 16GB and 32GB. The memory runs at 2400 MT/s with E5 v4 and 2133 MT/s with E5 v3, lower with more modules per channel. These processors do not support 16Gb DRAM, so there is no 64GB RDIMM: for 64GB modules on an E5 platform, use the LRDIMM listing.
  • The LRDIMM listings are 64GB DDR4-2666 load-reduced modules, the largest module NEMIX RAM lists for these platforms. The module runs at the platform's memory speed.

Kits and population

Every listing offers single modules and matched kits, sized to the platform's channel layout so that each processor's channels are filled evenly:

  • Kits of 8 and 16 on the M50FCP, M50CYP, M20NTP and D50 platforms (eight channels per processor) and on the Xeon E5 boards (four channels per processor), up to each board's slot count.
  • Kits of 6 and 12 on the S2600WF, S2600ST and S2600BP (six channels per processor on 1st and 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable), and kits of 6 on the S7200AP.
  • Groups of 8 and 16 on the S9200WK compute modules, as Intel specifies for those nodes.
  • Pairs on the S1200SP entry boards and the R1208SP/R1304SP systems, which take 16GB DDR4-2666 ECC unbuffered modules (ECC UDIMM), never registered memory.

Install identical modules within each processor's channels, and populate each compute module separately: a chassis with four HNS2600TP nodes needs four sets of modules.

The Intel model number is printed on the board, on the system label of a rack system and on the label of a compute module, and it is on your order paperwork. Type it into the search bar at the top of the page. Refresh SKUs ending in "R" (for example S2600WFTR or R1208WFQZSR) take the same memory as the original board and return its listings, and Intel model numbers that use a zero, such as S2600WF0 or R2312WF0NP, return the listings whether you type the zero or the letter O. The Intel server memory guide explains how to read an Intel model number and lists every platform's memory rules.

Frequently asked questions

Are Intel server boards and systems still supported after the move to MiTAC?

MiTAC Computing took over Intel's server board and system business in 2023 and supports the installed platforms. Memory for them is standard JEDEC DDR4 and DDR5 server memory, and NEMIX RAM lists every model on this page with the module type, speed and size the platform takes.

Can I use DDR4 memory in an M50FCP or D50DNP system?

No. M50FCP and D50DNP platforms take DDR5 RDIMMs only. The M50CYP, M20NTP, M70KLP and D50TNP platforms take DDR4-3200.

Can I mix the RDIMM and LRDIMM listings in one server?

No. Registered and load-reduced modules cannot be mixed in the same system. Choose the listing that matches the modules already installed, or replace the full set.

Why is there no 64GB RDIMM for my S2600CW or S2600WT?

A 64GB RDIMM uses 16Gb DRAM, which Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 processors do not support. The 64GB LRDIMM listing for the same board is the way to reach the platform maximum.

Will 64GB RDIMMs work in my S2600WF with 1st Gen Xeon Scalable processors?

No. 64GB RDIMMs need 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable processors. With 1st Gen processors, use 16GB or 32GB RDIMMs, or the 64GB LRDIMM.

Do you supply memory for a whole cluster or a fleet of Intel servers?

Yes. Purchase orders, net terms and volume pricing are available for data centers, HPC sites, universities, government buyers and resellers. Send us the Intel model numbers and the target capacity per node and we will quote matched kits.
