Hypertec, founded in 1984 and based in Montreal, builds servers and workstations under two names: Hypertec servers (the TITAN, ORION, TRIDENT and MAGMA lines) and CIARA systems (KRONOS workstations, HORIZON desktops, ASTRO micro PCs, CRIUS laptops and ARIUS all-in-ones). NEMIX RAM has 97 memory listings for these systems. This guide explains which memory each line takes and how to find the right listing for yours.

The short answer: Hypertec servers take ECC registered memory: DDR5 RDIMM on G6 and G7 systems, DDR4-3200 RDIMM or LRDIMM on G5 systems. CIARA workstations and desktops take DDR5 RDIMM or UDIMM depending on the model, and CIARA micro PCs, laptops and all-in-ones take non-ECC SODIMM. Every listing below names the exact model it fits.

Find your model first

The model name is on the system label, the front bezel or the order paperwork. Two parts of it decide the memory:

  • The line: TITAN (AI and GPU servers), ORION (rack, compute, high-density and storage servers, plus rackmount workstations), TRIDENT (immersion-cooled servers), MAGMA (storage), or a CIARA name.
  • The generation suffix on Hypertec servers: G5 and G5C systems take DDR4-3200; G6 systems take DDR5-4800, DDR5-5600 or DDR5-6400 depending on the processor; G7 systems take DDR5-6400.

Type the model, for example GS680R-G7, C620R-G6, RS520D-G5 or KRONOS 546-G2, into the search bar at the top of the page to go straight to its listing.

Hypertec TITAN: AI and GPU servers

TITAN is Hypertec's line for AI training, inference and GPU compute. These servers carry the most memory per system, and most TITAN listings offer kits of 12 or 16 modules.

Hypertec ORION: rack, compute, high-density and storage servers

Hypertec TRIDENT and MAGMA

TRIDENT servers are designed for single-phase immersion cooling, where the whole system runs submerged in a dielectric fluid. Memory for them is the same DDR5 ECC RDIMM as an air-cooled server; what matters is the model and speed.

CIARA workstations and desktops

CIARA micro PCs, laptops and all-in-ones

These take non-ECC SODIMM, as single modules or two-module kits.

How to choose the right module

1. Match the form factor

RDIMM, LRDIMM, UDIMM and SODIMM are not interchangeable. Hypertec servers and KRONOS 545/546 workstations take RDIMM (or LRDIMM on G5); ORION W215R/W210R, KRONOS 540 and HORIZON take UDIMM; ASTRO, CRIUS and ARIUS take SODIMM.

2. Match the generation and speed

G5 is DDR4-3200; G6 is DDR5 at the speed the processor supports; G7 is DDR5-6400. A faster module runs at the processor's speed, so it is safe in a slower system. On CIARA Intel Core Ultra machines, our listings carry standard DDR5-5600, because the faster speeds CIARA quotes apply to CUDIMM and CSODIMM modules.

3. Fill the channels evenly

Install identical modules in matched sets, with the same capacity in every channel. On dual-socket servers, split the kit evenly between the processors. Our DDR5 server kits go up to 2TB with sixteen 128GB modules; for larger configurations, contact us.

Buying for a data center, lab or fleet

Hypertec and CIARA systems are often deployed in racks, render farms and office fleets. Send us the model list and quantities and we will quote matched kits for every system as one order. Frequently asked questions

What memory does a Hypertec server take?

Hypertec TITAN, ORION, TRIDENT and MAGMA servers take ECC registered memory. G6 and G7 systems use DDR5 ECC RDIMM; the G5 and G5C generation uses DDR4-3200 ECC RDIMM or LRDIMM. A few ORION rackmount workstations (W215R-G6 and W210R-G6) take unbuffered UDIMM instead.

Which DDR5 speed do I need for a Hypertec G6 server?

It depends on the processor fitted. G6 platforms run DDR5-4800, DDR5-5600 or DDR5-6400, and several models are listed at more than one speed. Match the speed of the modules already installed, or the speed your processor supports. A faster module runs at the speed the processor supports, so DDR5-5600 or DDR5-6400 is always safe in a DDR5-4800 system.

Can I mix RDIMM and LRDIMM in a Hypertec G5 server?

No. On DDR4 G5 and G5C platforms, choose one type and use it in every slot. LRDIMM is the route to the highest capacity, for example up to 4TB on the ORION RS520D-G5; RDIMM costs less at moderate capacity. If the server is already populated, stay with the type that is installed.

Which memory fits a CIARA KRONOS workstation?

It depends on the model. KRONOS 545 and 546 workstations take DDR5 ECC RDIMM, at DDR5-5600 or DDR5-6400 depending on the generation, in kits of up to eight modules. KRONOS 540 workstations take DDR5-5600 UDIMM, with separate listings for ECC and non-ECC modules.

Why are some CIARA listings DDR5-5600 when CIARA quotes DDR5-6400 or faster?

On Intel Core Ultra machines, CIARA's faster figures apply to CUDIMM and CSODIMM clocked modules, which NEMIX RAM does not currently supply. Those listings carry standard JEDEC DDR5-5600 modules, which work in those systems at 5600 MT/s.

Does the ARIUS 13580 take DDR5 or DDR4?

The ARIUS 13580 ships with one of two main boards. Our listing fits the Q670 version, which takes DDR5 SODIMM. The H610 version takes DDR4. Check the board before you order, or send us the model and we will confirm it.

Why NEMIX RAM for Hypertec and CIARA memory

Every listing names the exact Hypertec or CIARA model it fits and offers only the module types, speeds and kit sizes that model supports. Researched, matched, and compatibility-tested by NEMIX RAM, a US-based server memory specialist since 1993, and backed by a lifetime warranty. Not sure which listing fits? Send us the model and the part number on an installed module and we will confirm fitment before you order.
