Short answer: ASRock desktop motherboards use non-ECC unbuffered memory (UDIMM): DDR5 on current AM5 and Intel boards, DDR4 on AM4 and older Intel boards. Many ASRock AM5 and AM4 boards also accept ECC UDIMM with a supporting processor. ASRock mini PCs mostly use SODIMM. ASRock Rack server boards and servers use ECC registered memory (RDIMM, and LRDIMM on some DDR4 platforms), or ECC UDIMM on Ryzen, Xeon E and W680/W880 platforms. This guide shows how to find your model and links to the matching NEMIX RAM listing for every ASRock and ASRock Rack model we cover: more than 1,300 listings, including every current and legacy ASRock Rack board and server with DDR4 or DDR5 memory.

Find your ASRock model first

The model name is printed on the motherboard between the memory and PCIe slots, and on the box or system label. ASRock desktop boards are named by chipset and series, such as X870E Taichi, B650M Pro RS or Z890 Steel Legend WiFi. ASRock Rack board names start with the platform and show the number of DIMM slots after the "D": ROMED8-2T is an AMD EPYC (Rome) board with 8 DIMM slots, and ROME2D16 is a dual-socket board with 16. ASRock Rack server names start with the height: 1U4LW-B650 is a 1U server, 4U8G-TURIN2 is a 4U GPU server and 2U4N-F is a 2U four-node system. Type the model name into the search bar at the top of any page on nemixram.com, or use the tables below.

ASRock Industrial

ASRock Industrial IMB motherboards and embedded systems use SODIMM or UDIMM depending on the model, DDR5 on current boards and DDR4 on earlier ones. Example: IMB-A1003. See all ASRock Industrial models.

Which type of memory does my ASRock board or server use?

  • Non-ECC UDIMM: standard desktop memory for ASRock desktop motherboards and DeskMeet mini PCs.
  • ECC UDIMM: unbuffered ECC memory for ASRock Rack Ryzen, Xeon E, W680 and W880 boards, and for desktop AM5 and AM4 boards running a processor with ECC support. See DDR5 ECC UDIMM.
  • ECC RDIMM: registered memory for ASRock Rack EPYC, Xeon and Ampere boards and servers, and ASRock workstation boards. See DDR5 RDIMM and DDR4 RDIMM.
  • LRDIMM: load-reduced DDR4 modules for maximum capacity on supported server boards. Do not mix with RDIMM.
  • SODIMM: laptop-size modules for DeskMini, DeskSlim, Jupiter, Mars and Beebox mini PCs, compact ASRock Rack boards and many ASRock Industrial boards.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between ASRock and ASRock Rack?

ASRock makes consumer and workstation motherboards and mini PCs. ASRock Rack is its server brand: server motherboards, rackmount servers, GPU servers and storage systems for Intel Xeon, AMD EPYC and Ampere processors. They use different memory, so check which brand is printed on your board or system.

Can I use ECC memory on an ASRock AM5 or AM4 motherboard?

Many ASRock AM5 and AM4 boards support ECC UDIMM, but only with a processor that supports ECC, such as AMD Ryzen PRO or EPYC 4004/4005. Where a board supports both, we list ECC UDIMM and non-ECC UDIMM separately and link the two listings. Choose one type and do not mix them.

My board is rated for DDR4-2666. Why are the modules DDR4-3200?

DDR4-3200 modules are backward compatible and run at the speed your platform supports. Each listing states the rated speed from the ASRock or ASRock Rack specification.

Which memory does an ASRock Rack server or barebone take?

The same memory as the motherboard inside it. Each server listing names the board, the slot count, the memory type and the maximum module size. Multi-node systems are described per node: fill every node the same way.

Can I mix RDIMM and LRDIMM, or ECC and non-ECC?

No. Use one memory type in a system. Where a board supports both RDIMM and LRDIMM, or ECC and non-ECC UDIMM, each type has its own listing. For best results install identical modules and populate memory channels evenly on each processor.

Can I order memory for several servers or a whole rack?

Yes. Purchase orders, net terms and volume pricing are available for businesses, data centers, research labs, universities, government buyers and resellers. Request a quote with your model list.
