The model name (for example Katana 15 HX C14W, Crosshair 16 HX E14W or Cyborg 15 B2RW) is on the label on the bottom of the laptop and in the Windows system information. Use the whole name: the letters at the end separate processor generations, and with them the memory type. The Katana 15 HX C14W was sold with either DDR5 or DDR4, so it has one listing for each.

Rules that apply across these laptops
- Match the generation. DDR5 (262-pin) and DDR4 (260-pin) SODIMMs are keyed differently and will not fit each other's slots.
- Install matched pairs. Every model here has two SODIMM slots; identical modules run in dual-channel mode.
- The processor sets the speed. Where MSI lists DDR5-5200 for a model, DDR5-5600 modules run at the speed the processor supports.
- Know the maximum. Where MSI states a maximum the listing goes to it, up to 96GB on DDR5 and 64GB on DDR4. Where MSI does not state one, the listing is built to the largest configuration MSI supplies.
Frequently asked
What memory does an MSI gaming laptop take?
MSI Katana, Crosshair, Raider, Cyborg, Vector and Stealth gaming laptops use non-ECC SODIMM memory in two slots. Most current models take DDR5; some Cyborg and Katana versions take DDR4-3200. Each listing states the memory type, speed and maximum for that model.
How do I find my model number?
The full model name, for example Katana 15 HX C14W or Cyborg 15 B2RW, is on the label on the bottom of the laptop and in the system information in Windows. Use the whole name including the letters at the end, since they separate processor generations and memory types.
The Katana 15 HX C14W has two listings. Which one do I need?
MSI sold this model with either DDR5-5600 or DDR4-3200 memory. Check the module installed in your laptop, or the configuration on your order, then pick the matching listing. DDR5 and DDR4 modules do not fit each other's slots.
Why do some listings stop at 32GB or 64GB?
For some models MSI's specification page does not state a maximum. Those listings are built to the largest memory configuration MSI supplies for the model, and the listing says so. Where MSI states a maximum, the listing goes to it, up to 96GB.
Which MSI gaming laptops are not listed yet?
Models that use DDR5-6400 memory, models with soldered memory, and older models still being checked against MSI's specifications are not listed yet. Send us your model and we will confirm what fits.
