UGREEN NASync models use laptop-size SODIMM memory, and changing it is one of the quickest upgrades on a NAS: shut down, open the panel on the bottom, seat the module, and check the new total in UGOS. This guide covers which memory each NASync takes, how many slots it has, and the install steps from start to finish. It covers the Intel-based DXP models, which use DDR5, and the AMD-based GT models, which use DDR4.

Which memory does your UGREEN NASync take?

The Intel DXP models take non-ECC DDR5 SODIMM. The DXP2800 GT and DXP4800 GT take DDR4 SODIMM, either ECC or non-ECC. Every upgradeable NASync takes SODIMM, so there are no full-size desktop or server modules to consider. Find your model below, then follow the steps.

The DXP2800 and DXP4800 have one memory slot, so a new module replaces the factory 8GB module. Every other model in the table has two slots and ships with 8GB in one of them, which leaves the second free. UGREEN rates the DXP2800 and DXP4800 for 16GB, and its own compatibility list includes a tested 32GB module for both. Check the model name carefully: there are four different DXP4800 units (DXP4800, Plus, Pro and GT), and they take different memory. The UGREEN NASync memory guide explains the differences.

The NASync DH2300, DH4300 Plus, iDX6011 and iDX6011 Pro have memory soldered to the board. They have no memory slot, so their memory cannot be upgraded.

Before you start

  • Confirm your exact model on the label on the unit, then match it to the table. The memory type is not interchangeable: DDR5 modules do not fit DDR4 slots, and ECC and non-ECC modules should not be mixed.
  • Check what is installed now. In UGOS, open Control Panel and check About for the hardware summary. Write down the memory total.
  • Use matched modules on two-slot models. Fill both slots with modules of the same capacity and speed. A two-module kit arrives matched. If you mix speeds, both modules run at the slower speed.
  • Back up your data before you open any NAS, and have a small Phillips screwdriver and a clear, soft surface ready.
  • Never add or remove memory with the power on. UGREEN's guide says not to plug or unplug drives, M.2 SSDs or RAM while the NAS is on. Shut it down and unplug it first.

About compatibility. UGREEN keeps a memory compatibility list of modules it has tested. It says a component that is not on the list is not automatically incompatible, but that it cannot guarantee stability or performance. NEMIX RAM modules are researched, matched, and compatibility-tested by NEMIX RAM and are backed by a lifetime warranty. If you are unsure, send us your model and we will confirm the module before you order.

How to install memory in a UGREEN NASync

Step 1: Check the current memory

Sign in to UGOS as an administrator, open Control Panel and check About to see the hardware summary and the current memory total. After the upgrade you will check the same screen.

Step 2: Shut down and unplug

Shut the NAS down from UGOS and wait until the unit is fully off. Unplug the power cable and every network, USB and HDMI cable.

Step 3: Open the bottom panel

Turn the NAS over onto a soft surface. According to UGREEN's NASync beginner guide, the memory slot sits at the bottom of the device behind the expansion compartment panel. Remove the screws that hold the panel and take it off. The number of screws varies by model. The M.2 SSD slots are in the same compartment, so avoid disturbing any M.2 drive that is already fitted.

Step 4: Find the slot and release the old module if replacing

On the single-slot DXP2800 and DXP4800, the factory 8GB module occupies the only slot, so release it first: push the clips on both sides outward, and the module pops up at an angle. Lift it out by the edges. On two-slot models, one slot holds the factory 8GB module and one is free. To go to a matched pair, remove the factory module as well. Keep the original module in an anti-static bag. Do not touch the gold contacts.

Step 5: Seat the new module

Line up the notch in the middle of the module with the notch in the slot. Insert the module at an angle, about 30 degrees, then press it down gently until the side clips lock and it clicks into place. It should slide in without force. If it resists, check the orientation and the memory type.

Step 6: Close up and power on

Refit the panel and tighten its screws. Reconnect the power and network cables and press the power button. UGREEN's guide says the front LEDs flash white when the NAS is operating normally.

Step 7: Confirm the new total in UGOS

Sign in again, open Control Panel and check About. The memory total should show the new capacity. For example, adding a 16GB module to the factory 8GB module on a two-slot model reads 24GB, and a matched pair of 16GB modules reads 32GB. Leave the NAS running under your normal workload for a while and confirm it stays stable.

If the NAS does not start or shows less memory

  1. Shut down, unplug the power cable and open the bottom panel again.
  2. Reseat each module until the clips click.
  3. Check the memory type: DDR5 on the DXP models, DDR4 on the GT models. Do not mix ECC and non-ECC.
  4. Test with one module at a time. If a single module works and the pair does not, the pair may not match.
  5. Refit the original module to confirm the NAS itself is healthy, then send us your model and the module part number.

How much memory should you install?

The factory 8GB is enough for file serving and backups. Docker containers, virtual machines, photo and media indexing, and Plex or Jellyfin transcoding all benefit from more. On the DXP2800 and DXP4800, one 16GB or 32GB module is the upgrade path. On two-slot models, 2 x 16GB gives 32GB and 2 x 32GB gives 64GB, and the DXP4800 Pro, DXP6800 Ultra and DXP8800 Ultra reach 96GB with two 48GB modules. Do not exceed the maximum UGREEN specifies for your model.

ECC memory on the GT models

Only the DXP2800 GT and DXP4800 GT take ECC modules. UGREEN states the GT platform supports ECC, and the NAS ships with a non-ECC module, so you can choose either type. If you switch to ECC, replace the factory module so you are not mixing ECC and non-ECC. The Intel DXP models take non-ECC DDR5. The "ODECC" in their spec sheets is on-die ECC built into every DDR5 chip and does not mean the NAS accepts ECC modules.
