RDIMM stands for Registered Dual Inline Memory Module and is primarily used for server memory upgrades. RDIMM should not be confused with ECC UDIMM, although both support ECC (Error Correction Code). ECC UDIMM is unbuffered, whereas RDIMM is buffered.
When memory is manufactured, it can be a Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM), while a registered memory module is referred to as an RDIMM. Registered memory modules, also called buffered memory modules, include a register (buffer) chip between the DRAM chips and the system’s memory controller.
Registered (buffered) server memory reduces the electrical load on the memory controller, allowing systems to remain stable when using a larger number of memory modules. Because registered memory includes additional circuitry, it is typically found in applications that require scalability and higher memory capacity.
Usually, the motherboard must match the DIMM type. Registered memory will not work in a motherboard that is not designed for RDIMM, and vice versa. Most desktop, gaming, and standard PC motherboards use unbuffered memory specifications and will not accept registered memory.
Although there is often confusion between registered (buffered) memory and ECC unbuffered memory, we make the upgrade process simple. Simply call us and we will guide you through our website or assist you with your order by phone. We also offer quantity discounts on registered memory and payment terms for qualified organizations.
DDR3 RDIMM
DDR3 RDIMM is a 240-pin memory module. Although considered EOL (End of Life), DDR3 is still widely used in many applications. DDR3 RDIMM is available in different ranks, which refer to how the DRAM chips are organized on the module.
Our memory upgrades are typically sold in the most common rank configurations, but other rank options are available upon request. DDR3 modules are available in 1.35V (low voltage), although most operate at 1.5V. If you are unsure which voltage is required for your application, search by “Memory by Manufacturer” for your specific system model or contact us for assistance with rank, voltage, or any other technical specification.
DDR4 RDIMM
DDR4 RDIMM is a 288-pin memory module. NEMIX RAM DDR4 upgrades are readily available and in stock. DDR4 registered memory operates at 1.2V. Like DDR3, DDR4 server memory is available in multiple rank configurations.
If you are unsure which rank is required, we recommend contacting us. We offer the most commonly used upgrade kits and configurations.
DDR5 RDIMM
DDR5 RDIMM is also a 288-pin memory module but features a different pinout and architecture than DDR4. DDR5 memory upgrades are available in the following capacities:
12GB – 24GB – 32GB – 48GB – 64GB – 96GB – 128GB – 256GB – 512GB
While DDR5 registered memory voltage is standardized, it is available in multiple speed options. Please contact us for assistance selecting the correct DDR5 memory upgrade for your system.
Why Quality Matters
Not all registered memory is created equal. The quality of the chipset, PCB, and register/buffer component plays a significant role in performance and stability.
Tier-1 manufacturers such as Samsung, Micron, and Hynix manufacture original modules using high-quality components. However, not all third-party manufacturers meet the same standards.
NEMIX RAM has been designing and manufacturing server memory for over 30 years. We are a niche private manufacturer focused on quality and value, and all of our server memory upgrades are backed by a Lifetime Warranty.
NEMIX RAM RDIMM modules are built using Tier-1 chips and high-quality PCBs. We specifically design our modules for system compatibility, ensuring performance, stability, and scalability. Our registered memory upgrades are fully compatible with leading server brands, including Cisco, HP, IBM, Supermicro, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, and many others.
