About RAM. How do I know which RAM to buy?

A memory upgrade is the easiest way to improve the performance of a computer. Current memory modules are now manufactured mainly in DDR4 however DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 memory is still available. This is a brief history of memory prior to DDR4:

-        In 1983, Wang Laboratories created the single in-line memory module (SIMM)

-        In 1993, Samsung introduced synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) which became industry standard.

-        DDR (double data rate) technology began to appear in 2001-2002.

-        DDR2 (double data rate, second generation) appeared in 2004.

-        DDR3 technology appeared in 2007.

-        DDR4 technology started to appear in 2014.

Whether you are upgrading a PC or Mac, a laptop or desktop, a server or workstation, or even a printer or router, a RAM (Random Access Memory) module is easy and simple to install. However, the most important part of any memory upgrading is definitely understanding your system compatibility.

The following is helpful information to upgrading your system memory....

Apple or Mac Memory Upgrades: The best way to upgrade your Apple is to choose your system in our Mac Upgrade center https://www.nemixram.com/apple-memory-upgrades. We offer all possible upgrades for Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro, Apple iMac, Apple Mac Mini, and Apple Mac Pro systems. Apple memory upgrades are very specific and may use a wide variety of modules including SODIMMs, ECC UDIMMs, RDIMMs and FBDIMMS. If you cannot find your upgrade, please call us for exact answers and support.

For PC Desktops and Laptops: NEMIX RAM offers all possible DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) for Desktop Computers and SODIMM (Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module) for Laptops. Often customers are concerned with the amount of pins on the module…Please note that if you know what generation of module you need, all pin sizes are standard (JEDEC standard.) To purchase Desktop or Laptop Memory, go to https://www.nemixram.com/pc-desktop-laptop-memory and please choose your upgrade. If you know your system info, such as Dell or HP you may find your upgrade in our System Finder https://www.nemixram.com/shop-by-machine

Servers: Since we manufacture and specialize in certified memory upgrades for servers, we are able to offer the exact upgrade along with maximum tested capacity for your machine. Server Memory is usually known as Error Correcting Code memory (ECC memory) which is a type of computer data storage that can detect and correct the most common kinds of internal data corruption. Server memory is also often registered or buffered. A registered DIMM (RDIMM) has a register between the DRAM modules and the system's memory controller card. They place less electrical load on the memory controller and allow single systems to remain stable with a larger quantity of installed modules. When compared with registered memory, conventional memory is usually referred to as unbuffered memory. When modules are manufactured as, a registered memory module is called an RDIMM, while unregistered memory is called UDIMM or simply DIMM. Registered Server memory is available in different formats:

Registered Memory (R-DIMM):  While buffered memory is an older term for registered memory, Buffered refers to an electronic buffer placed between the memory and the memory controller. RDIMMs are simply referred to as registered and available in DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 modules.

Fully Buffered DIMM (FB-DIMM): Fully Buffered modules are used in some systems with large maximum memory capacities. In RDIMM, only the control lines are buffered; in FBDIMM the data lines are buffered as well with all transfers performed in a serial organization and the additional logic present on each FBDIMM transforms serial input into parallel signals required to drive the modules. FBDIMMs are available in DDR2.

Load Reduced DIMM (LR-DIMM):  An LRDIMM is similar to registered/buffered memory in such a way that load reduced modules will buffer both control lines along with data lines while simultaneously keeping the signals parallel. This allows for a larger capacity of modules and total memory capacity. LRDIMMs are available in DDR3 and DDR4.

While we offer generic server upgrades for Intel based server mother boards and many other boards such as SuperMicro and Acer, we suggest that you purchase any server memory specific to your machine and module. Most machines, especially Cisco, HP Enterprise, IBM and Fujitsu require specific module programming. Please enter your system information in our System Finder https://www.nemixram.com/shop-by-machine for detailed upgrade information. Corporate customers and volume buyers are welcome to call us at 561-451-2240 for support and additional information. There are some companies that offer memory system scanners that frequently make errors, especially if you have a newer generation. We guarantee you will receive the right upgrade and get fast answers by simply calling us. NEMIX RAM has been tested in over 76,000 different systems. Our memory is designed to work in any server, workstation, desktop PC, laptop PC, or Apple / Mac computer NEMIX RAM is backed by Lifetime Warranty and free technical support.
