Choosing the right DDR4 server module

RDIMM and LRDIMM cannot be mixed in the same system, and neither can be mixed with ECC UDIMM — start from what the platform already runs. Within RDIMM, match rank organization (1Rx4, 2Rx4, 2Rx8) to the installed modules where possible; mixed ranks can lower the effective speed. LRDIMM is the route to the highest capacity per slot (128GB and 256GB). A faster module in a slower platform clocks down to the platform's speed, and a slower module pulls every channel down to its own speed.
